Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers fight to keep abortion safe, legal, and accessible for anyone who seeks abortion care. We provide on-site clinic support with volunteer Clinic Escorts and Clinic Defenders six days a week at one of the last remaining independent abortion clinics in the southeast United States.

Why I Volunteer

Hear from our volunteers in their own words why they volunteer with Charlotte for Choice.

To Stand Between Them and the Vitriol

I'm from a small town in Georgia, It's about 6 hours from my parents' house to our clinic, about 5 hours from my college dorm to our clinic, and about 4.5 hours from my last Georgia address to our clinic.

I can only imagine what my old neighbors feel after making that treck up I-85. I know the drive well enough, but I've never made it to go to a doctor's appointment. I've never made the drive passing billboards telling *me* to turn around, to make a different choice for *my* life. I've never made the final GPS guided turn and faced protestors blocking the street and yelling at me.

I don't know how my old neighbors feel, but I can imagine, and I want them to have a friendly face - someone who will stand between them and the vitriol. They shouldn't have had to make that drive, but I'll be waiting for them at their destination to help.

I Want My Values to Show in My Actions

I volunteer because I want my values to show in my actions.

I moved to the south from a state with enshrined access. I saw a need for this type of work here and I know the difference it can make.

I’ve been volunteering with Charlotte for Choice for 5 years. I’ve been with this incredible family of folks long enough that my own daughter now volunteers with us.

I am so grateful for this organization and the opportunity to help folks access abortion and resources safely and with compassion.

I Believe in Equitable Access to Reproductive Freedoms

I volunteer with Charlotte for Choice because I believe in equitable access to reproductive freedoms and the importance of removing shame and stigma from exercising those freedoms.

Being part of the Charlotte for Choice community allows me to contribute meaningfully to improving access and the care experience for birthing people in the Southeast.

Helping ensure patients can safely get to their appointments and feel supported at the clinic is incredibly rewarding, especially alongside a dedicated community united by this mission.

I am deeply grateful to be part of Charlotte for Choice.

Now I Fight as My Mom Did for Me

I was turning 50, divorced, a mother of one college-aged son. I kept seeing livestreams on social media come up showing what really goes on at the clinic in Charlotte. It was pulling at my heart. I had felt empty for so long. So I completed the application and the next thing I knew I was fulfilled with something I didn’t know I needed. I found a family and friends I didn’t know I needed.

Helping patients get into a parking lot, being a smiling face, sometimes just holding a sign; but it means so much to show we care for them.

I have two nieces and I am constantly worrying about what rights they will lose or are losing. I don’t want to see them or anyone lose any more reproductive rights. Now I fight as my mom did for me.

To Put My Actions Where My Words Were

Kerry

I began volunteering two years ago after the Dobbs decision came down. While I have always been a passionate advocate for choice and autonomy, it was with the fall of Roe that I found the courage to get involved and put my actions where my words were.

I found the courage to pay forward the kindness volunteers provided on the day I found myself in need of reproductive care. I could no longer sit on the sidelines, having experienced firsthand the coercive measures and intimidation tactics patients are met with on the sidewalk.  With that knowledge I felt driven to pay it forward, and help others access health care with empathy and compassion.

I am so proud to be a part of Charlotte for Choice and grateful to be helping others in a meaningful way.

To Protect Our Right to Choose

Britt

I volunteer to protect our right to choose. I knew at a young age that I never wanted kids and I think it’s important for every woman to have that choice. I also believe that everyone should feel safe in exercising that right.

My favorite thing about Charlotte for Choice is that they prioritize patient safety first and foremost.

I Trust Patients

I’m a retired nurse and I volunteer at Charlotte for Choice because I trust patients. I trust patients to be able to make their own decisions in regards to ALL aspects of their healthcare!!! I’m willing to travel thru 4 states in order to escort patients for healthcare because it is that important!
